Western Challenge Portrait Project

Hi Circle Bike Friends.

As you know, one of the best parts of track cycling is the truly special community we’re part of at the Burnaby Velodrome, and it’s place around the country, continent and global network of track cyclists.

With that in mind I’ve been thinking about the Western Challenge and a personal photography project to showcase our awesome scene and give something back to the participants in our community and the presenters of the race itself (the Burnaby Velodrome Club, Cycling BC and Cycling Canada).

With that said, on Saturday January 18th, during the Western Challenge, I’ll be setting up a portrait station at the Burnaby Velodrome and making an attempt to photograph each participant and volunteer at the Challenge this weekend. I’ll supply the photographs to the participants as well as share them with the organizers (BVC, CBC and CC) for them to help promote track cycling and attract more sponsors and support to events like ours.

If you want to be a part of the project, I’ll be shooting during the break between sessions on Saturday. I’m still racing this weekend! To have a great portrait shot, you’ll need to find me in between the Morning and Evening sessions on Saturday. The only thing I’ll ask if you’re racing is to come for your portrait still in your cycling jersey. If you’re a volunteer or commissaire, just show up in between sessions! I will be available during the entire break at the Velodrome. But once racing starts I’ll have to get ready to go fast myself.

The portrait will only take a few minutes in front of the camera, and a quick moment to fill out a model release form and contact information.

Hope to see you this weekend for some great racing!
